Baltimore Street (Cumberland, Maryland) on April 10, 1862. The snowstorm brought heavy snow to portions of the Middle Atlantic region. Two feet of snow fell at Chambersburg, PA.

News accounts:

From Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania: "A most furious, pertinaciuos and continuous snowstorm visited our county on Tuesday last [April 8]. It was about the biggest snow of the season."

From Virginia: "General [James] Shields was to have left Strasburg yesterday [April 7] for Woodstock, but was prevented by the heavy snowstorm that prevailed all day."
