News Account:

A surprise band of snow settled over a portion of central Long Island early Monday [March 31], making for a messy, slow-moving morning commute, the National Weather Service said...

The dip in temperature plus a band hanging from the Nassau-Suffolk border east to Coram led to the heavier than expected snow, basically making some of the larger roadways, including the Long Island Expressway, slick and slow moving.
